Tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Melissa and I have been living with my family on our bush property on the south coast of NSW for the past 30 years. I am a contemporary Aboriginal artist. I wasn’t raised with our heritage so my stories come from living on country, community, Elders and my life experiences.

I love yoga, swimming, walking and spending time with my Kelpie. Oh and Chocolate.

What is your favourite drink?
Love a good pot of tea with chocolate.

What inspired you to start painting/drawing?
My inspiration comes from my culture, Elders , my environment, my everyday life and my surroundings. It’s a beautiful connection I have to my Aboriginal heritage. I love the thought of my art starting conversation/ questions about Aboriginal culture and history.

What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out
Create from your heart , be true to yourself and don’t let self doubt catch you out.
