Carmel McCarney

Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Most of my life has been spent on Sydney’s Northern Beaches but I also have a strong connection with the NSW South Coast. When I am not in my studio, I love travelling and spending time with family and friends. My art is a reflection of people, places and experiences that bring me joy. Each work is an effort to capture the small but important moments that make life special. My aim is for my work to bring happiness to me, my collectors and those who view it.

What is your favourite drink?
Well, that depends, but with Summer around the corner, you can’t beat a cold glass of champagne at sunset!

What Inspired you to start painting?
I have always loved drawing and creating, however it wasn’t until later in life that I had the opportunity to devote the hours and gain the confidence to turn my passion into a full-time gig. I paint because it truly is the thing I most love to do, time simply stops when I am creating in my studio.

What advice would you give other artists/creative starting out?Just do it! Do what you can with whatever physical space, time or resources you can get your hands on. It is a journey with no ending. Just keep creating, experimenting, making mistakes and showing up! Every creation, even the ones that seem like a disaster, are a step towards you evolving towards your best creative self.
