Robyn Ripley - Banksia meets Lilac #2
Symbolising resilience, the Banksia Menziesii flourishes in the driest sunbaked environments. Its sharp, imposing foliage contrasts with its softer, vibrant blooms that captivate the observer. It’s this imposing foliage that provides shelter to many of our native bird and insect species. In late summer and early autumn, when the days are still balmy and warm, they come to bloom in Perth WA. They can be seen lining the highway from the hills to the coast in either direction. To me this flower evokes the feeling of those last joy filled beach days and signals the promise of cooler days to come. In this series I have chosen a bright lilac background to highlight the Banksia’s striking presence.
