Steph Chapman
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a colour-loving abstract artist from Geelong, Victoria. I create vibrant statement pieces to brighten up homes (and lives!). Outside painting, I’m a full-time communications professional - I write and edit content mostly. I also run workshops to help people write with impact. At home, I’m mum to a naughty middle-aged cat who sometimes poops on my bed.
What is your favourite drink?
I take a decaf, almond milk cappuccino. Also love sparkling water!
What inspired you to start painting?
I started painting a few years ago, after finding out I had a complicated heart condition. I became depressed and highly anxious. I discovered painting at rock bottom and it very quickly became my creative saviour. Dancing around with colour has helped heal me.
What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out?
My advice is to simply set out to paint something you like looking at. Don’t set out to create a masterpiece or align with trends. That’s too much pressure. If you like what you’re creating, all that loving energy will soak into your work. People will notice. People are drawn to lovingly made art. It makes people feel good - magically.
