Lozzie Eliza Designs

Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi, my name is Lauren Powell of Lozzie Eliza Designs and I am a Surface Designer Artist based in the Southern Highlands (Gundungurra), New South Wales. I love to paint and draw the nature around me which I then turn into patterns, before living on 5 acres my family lived in Sydney but they wanted a country change when I was really little so we moved to have a more rural life surrounded by many animals including horses and chickens.

Before I become a surface designer artist I was an assistant photographer capturing events, photos for businesses & Tourism but on the side, I loved to create art in Krita which is a raster-based computer drawing program that I would then upload to print on demand sites. I now create both digital in illustrator, procreate and watercolour artworks.

When I'm not doing designing based stuff I love to play different games on my computer or consoles, read different genres of books, grow veggies in our garden and be with my two dogs Lilly & Cookie, A dalmatian and an adopted Blue Merle Border collie cross Red Kelpie.

What is your favourite drink?
My most loved drink is a Latte but at home, I love any coffee or tea including Earl Grey, Yorkshire & Chai. The last few years I've been getting into Kombucha and really enjoy its cider-like taste as I don't drink alcohol.

What inspired you to start painting/drawing?
Art has always been a big part of what I loved to do. When I was young I always was painting, used oil pastels and did a lot of crafts.

Visual arts was my favourite class through school and I loved learning about digital drawing programs in my free time. After school, I was an assistant photographer until the pandemic. Recently I have spent time doing different courses and skillshare about Surface design and have been slowly exploring more things. Having fun painting again and exploring using more colours in my designs. I get inspired to draw from the local Native Flora and Fauna and create from them.

What advice would you give other artists / creative starting out?
My advice would be to create what you love and what is meaningful to you. Enjoy creating art and have some fun during it. Don't worry about what others might be creating. Take slow steps to where you might want to be and make goals so when you reach them you can celebrate them. Enjoy doing different courses, following videos on Youtube or Skillshare.

Connect with other artists on social media and make a community so can you can look back on all you have done over time. Get inspired by the world around you and draw from it. If things are getting too much at times just take a moment away and come back when you feel in the mood again.
When I don't feel creative I enjoy my other hobbies but always am thinking of different ideas. You don't need to follow trends just create from the heart and what interests you. Do what gives you joy and Just love what you are doing.
