Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a mum of 2 boys young active boys and love that painting allows me to work in between the boys busy schedules.

I have been painting and crafting since I was a young girl but really found a love for painting on canvas during high school and when I first started working in a modern homewares store when I was 19. I created once piece of artwork for my parents walls then I was hooked and couldn’t stop painting. I have been painting and selling my work now for over 18 years. I just love the satisfaction it brings to my life. I consider myself a caring person, a daydreamer, sometimes introverted and a homebody, however now that I work from my home studio and my paint brushes don’t talk back to me, I tend to crave to get out of the house and chat to people!

 What is your favourite drink?

I start my morning with a double shot Latte. I cant live without my morning coffee. I’m so not a morning person and it takes me a while to get going in the morning.

What inspired you to start painting?

I loved painting and doing craft from a really young age. I remember mum brought me a craft book for my 7th birthday and I adored it. I did work experience as a kid at Lindcraft and with a High profile Interior Designer. I also worked in a homewares store which gave me a love for colour in the home and interiors. My grandpa used to cut out wooden shapes on his jig-saw for me to paint as a kid. I even painted all my mum and dads wine glasses with glass paint sitting up at the kitchen bench.

During primary school I remember we would be given a topic in school to write about and I would take more time colouring in the heading than I would actually writing on the topic.

I tried all sorts of painting, but I first tried painting on canvas in year 12 at school. My year 12 Studio Art teacher, really pushed my passion for art. He showed me how to stretch my very own canvases. I won the year 12 Acquisitive Art Award and my work still hangs proudly at the school to this day.

I gained a love for interiors growing up through watching my dad run his own building business, and this is where I took a closer interest in the colour scheme and the art segment. At 19 I worked in a boutique homewares store whilst studying Visual Merchandising, and it is here that I noticed my Co-worker selling artwork in the store which inspired me to do the same.

What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out?

Its easy to procrastinate with art. Just start and don’t put to much expectation on yourself. Enjoy the process as it comes together. Collect a scrap book of ideas / colours / shapes / textures you like. Work on your style and experiment with what you like and don’t like. Usually one idea will flow onto the next. Take your inspiration from everything around you – not only visually but emotionally. Pour your heart into your art. Practise makes perfect, so don’t expect miracles overnight.

Experiment with art, have fun with it and don’t be scared to try all sorts of mediums and mix it up if you feel stale.
