Carley Bourne
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I have called Noosa home for the last 13 years after emigrating from England. Me and my husband spent a year backpacking around Australia in 2000 and knew we were destined to live in this wonderful country! I have worked full time as a visual artist since 2019 when I finally took the plunge and done what I have always dreamed of! Since then, I have been steadily growing and have a successful business/brand creating and selling my own artworks. My life is busy with a 5,15, and 16 year old, along with our cuddly spoodle Bella.
What is your favourite drink?
Strong quality Coffee first thing every day, and my fave weekend drinks are my hubby’s chilli coconut margaritas or espresso martinis!
What inspired you to start painting?
Living in Australia and being surrounded by natural beauty is what really inspired the body of works I create now. Noosa and the Sunshine Coast just has this creative and arty laid back vibe. From a coastal sunset, a steamy lush rainforest, or the native temperate banksia, I am always inspired and grateful of where I call home. I love the beach, tropical palm trees, and exotic flowers, which is the main theme to my work..
What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out?
Don’t overthink too much and take the first step! For the business side just research as much as you can and don’t try to do everything all at once! It is a good idea to define your style or to create a body of work that represents you/your style. It is very important for artists to find their own niche. You need to be different from anyone else, and you need to be unique. There are so many amazing artists out there, for me it was important to have work that’s distinctive, where others would see it and say ‘ Thats Carley Bournes work’.
