Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a busy mum of two girls and a passionate artist and art educator. I've always been creative as so many people are. I have created jewellery, handbags, sculptures and artworks since the day dot but it is only in the last few years that I have deep dived into painting and committed publicly to my art profession. My passion for painting, however, is impossible to contain and so I've created an online watercolour painting course entitled Permission To Paint to invite other women into artmaking. I've experienced firsthand the impact that painting can have on wellbeing and am driven to share these benefits with as many women as possible.

What is your favourite drink?

My favourite drink is most definitely a flat white. I practically run on caffeine as a mum of two. I also like a glass of rose on occasion... perhaps because it's pink!

What inspired you to start painting?

It was my mum, who is also an artist, who enticed me to dial up my passion for art-making. A few years back, for the first time since having my children, I was going to have 1 day to myself each week. A huge luxury, I wanted to be sure I didn't just fill it with cleaning the house or doing the grocery shopping. That was when my mum suggested a community art class. The sessions were amazing in that they provided a safe space to dive into painting again and to be amongst like-minded people.

What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out?

Pop that brave pill and get started! Any road worth travelling will have it's bumps but as long as you are authentic and your creative work truly fills your cup, you are right where you are meant to be. I have written a blog post on the topic here Why I Make Art - Ros Gervay Creative.
