Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a mum of two children and two fur kids. The fur kids love spending time in my studio while I paint. I have been working as a visual artist for 25 years and still love it. I also produce a range digital art, by using a combination of my hand-painted artwork and digital technology, which stems from my visual art background. The process of creating brings me great personal fulfilment and joy. I work mostly in acrylics on stretched canvas. Each artwork is built up layer upon layer to draw the viewer deeper into the artwork.

What is your favourite drink?

Nothing beats a glass of Sauvignon blanc to celebrate the completion of a painting.

What inspired you to start painting/drawing?

My grandfather was a sign writer and I would love to watch him working in his shed in the garden. Each letter perfectly painted with such patience. As a child I would spend hours drawing, painting and colouring in. I don’t remember a time when art wasn’t present in my life.

What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out?

Your work should be authentic to you and reflect ideas and concepts that resonate with you on a personal level. Take time to think about the subject matter, materials and techniques that you want to explore in your work.

Making art is often times a solitary act, find a supportive community, perhaps reach out to people you follow or a local art group. It's so important for our wellbeing as artists.
