Just Ruby & Me
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hello, my name is Emmy, I am a self-taught photographer. I love to be behind a camera, but when I am not, you can find me with the people and dogs I love - never without my two West Highland Terriers Theodore Honey and Bonnie Louise, who often accompany me on shoots! I love visiting my local library and bookstores for photography books, trying out new and old favourite recipes, travelling, exploring my favourite cities, beaches or country walks with my Westies, at farmers markets or riding my bike - always with my camera!
I am so grateful to be able to share my photography and having my prints in people’s homes from all around the world since I first opened my store on Etsy and now my online store, creating and hand wrapping original fine art photography prints for others to enjoy.
What is your favourite drink (tea, coffee, chai latte etc)
That’s a hard one! But think it would be fresh orange juice or an iced tea with lots of lemon!
What inspired you to start painting? (In my case photography)
My earliest memory when I was about ten years old and being fascinated by my Nanna and Mum’s old Brownie Box Cameras and VHS Camcorder. The three of us would carefully open up boxes and albums of our precious family photos, and I became fascinated by the way the camera captured our most treasured moments of people and places in another time and the way the photographs evoked such strong emotions. My Mum bought me my first film camera for 10th birthday - this is where my love of photography began.
Nature and architecture feature heavily in my photography - I particularly enjoy capturing our beautiful and unique country - the sparkle of the harbour in my favourite city Sydney to the changing seasons in special places like our capital Canberra, the Southern Highlands, the Blue Mountains, Northern Beaches to Lake Daylesford in Victoria and capturing life’s everyday ordinary and sometimes extraordinary moments. I currently enjoy shooting photos and videos on my Canon DSLR but I still adore 35mm film photography, classic black and white film and instant polaroids.
How can we support you?
I have recently launched my online store at justrubyandme.com - with every print sold, a native tree is planted through One Tree Planted Australia! 🌱
What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out?
My advice to anyone starting out is stay true to your unique self, take the photos that you personally enjoy taking and never give-up! Work hard, be kind and patient - you never know what opportunities are just around the corner ♥
