Charlotte Fowler
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I was born and raised in suburban Sydney, Australia. I’m the third of four children and considered the “quirky” one, mainly because I leaned more towards art rather than sports or physical activity of any kind haha. I’ve dealt with a lot of mental health issues in my past and art and painting was a very positive outlet for me, something that always brought me calmness, peace and a strong sense of self worth. When I’m not painting I spend time with my friends and family which is very important to me, keeping those who support me close by. I enjoy reading, meditating, yoga, surfing Instagram for inspiration, listening to music (sometimes on vinyl) and bingeing a lot of Netflix in my spare time.
What is your favourite drink?
Coffee hands down. Can’t live without it. I do have green tea every now and then but coffee is the way to my heart every time.
What inspired you to start painting/drawing?
Art has always been a huge part of my life ever since I was little. It was the one subject I always did the best at in school and it was just always something that came easily to me. I wanted to practice professionally because it was the only thing I ever wanted to do, and I found that it gave me a sense of purpose, especially when my style began attracting attention and praise from others. I find painting as a way of truly expressing myself in a way that I am the most comfortable with. The best way to get to know me is to look at my work, I’ve put every fibre of myself into it and it’s the most personal experience I’ve ever had.
What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out?
Power through. You will definitely get there in the end, just stay true to your own style and techniques and the right audience will find you eventually. Always keep an open mind, especially when it comes to the criticism; not everyone is an artist but everyone is a critic. If you remain confident in yourself, just take it with a grain of salt and keep going.
