April Ireland
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am an abstract nature artist living in the Gold Coast. I am a radiographer with a side passion for all things creative. I spend a lot of time outside and enjoy painting all things related to plants and landscapes. Seascapes and rolling hills are my favourite, with abstraction becoming more and more evident as I progress as an artist.
What is your favourite drink?
Other then art, my passion lies in enjoying myself with a good glass of wine. I have travelled to numerous vineyards and love learning about the different grapes and ways to make wine. It almost has its own ‘artistic’ flare to it. To me, the ultimate relaxation, combines pouring both paint and wine and sitting down to create for the afternoon.
What inspired you to start painting?
I started painting only a year or so ago. After fighting a chronic Illness it was the main thing that took away some of the pain. I immediately became hooked to the mindfulness practice of art.
What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out?
Just keep painting. There will always be days and weeks where nothing you seem to paint goes right, but as long as your putting colour on paper your evolving as an artist. Stay true to what inspires you and don’t change your style to be ‘in season’. Do some art courses, learn as much as you can and enjoy the journey.
