Mands Clark

Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m Mands. I live & create on Bunurong Land on the Mornington Peninsula. I’m a self-taught mixed media artist & forever learning! My inspiration comes from the world around me, Mother Nature & native flora. A big part of my process is connecting with a story, whether it be what is happening in my life or the client I am painting for. Painting is my way back home to myself & my connection to others all at the same time.

What is your favourite drink?
I can’t go past a fresh OJ! Or of course, a soy cappuccino.

What inspired you to start painting?
I’ve dabbled in painting and other art forms throughout my life. My Grandad was a painter & I suppose creativity is in the blood! But I could never make the connection between my non-stop creative brain and the physical world. It wasn’t until I gave myself permission to not fit into a box, to explore abstract and to tune into the process rather than the outcome, that I found my own style and I’ve never looked back. I feel so grateful to have found something that brings me this much joy.

How can we support you?
Oh what a wonderfully sweet question. Connecting with people is the best part of sharing my art. The stories, the way everyone interprets a piece in their own way, it’s magic! The best way to support artists like me, is to share, connect and converse with us!

What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out?
If you are just starting off, the best advice I can give you as a fellow creative is to meet yourself where you are. Don’t rush it. Creativity and your journey as an artist is life long. Every stage is vital to your development & you should immerse yourself in it. Oh, and do not compare your work to others! No one is you and that is exactly what makes your art so needed in this world!
