Emma Hergstrom
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a mum of two boys 2 and 4 years old. They keep me busy while I grow my art business and work part time as a designer for an Australian label. I’ve always worked in a creative field with experience in Apparel design, textile design and graphic design. I come from a long line of creatives in my family . My mum and Aunty were both art teachers and my grandfather was an artist so they taught me everything I know. I do however credit RMIT University for the design degree they gave me and the amazing life drawing and print making classes which were the highlight of uni days.
I’m an extrovert, a chatterbox and I love meeting new people but you could say my biggest fear is talking about my own artwork to people. My biggest goal is to overcome this. I’ll keep you posted 😉
What is your favourite drink (tea, coffee, chai latte etc)
I definitely need my coffee to start the day and often a cheeky wine at the end of the day.
What inspired you to start painting?
I come from extensive family of artists so I was inspired to be creative from a very young age. My mother was an art teacher so I was always learning new techniques and different medias to experiment with while growing up. Although I’ve always worked as a designer since completing fashion design at university, I’ve only just picked up the brushes again in the last 5 years and I have rediscovered my passion for hand worked art after being a digital artist for over 20 years .
How can we support you?
Buy local and original pieces, support emerging artists and artists who represent themselves as we need you while we develop to get more exposure and gain bigger opportunity. Word of mouth is our most valuable marketing tool.
What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out?
No matter how much skill or experience you have, just enjoy creating and don’t fear if others like it or not. Art is so subjective. You will always evolve and the process can be so satisfying even if the end result is not what you wanted or expected. Creativity is so good for the soul.
